“Tim Walsh and the Adventure Recovery family are some of the kindest and most compassionate souls I have had the privilege and honor to meet on my journey. Their methods of instruction as teachers and guides are truly divinely inspired. If you are interested in learning more about their extraordinary recovery stories and uncover and rediscover a natural way to find and maintain health and wellness through outdoor adventure and wonder I highly recommend contacting them.”-Jody D., AR Coach

“I am so grateful for Adventure Recovery and my AR Crew. As an AR Guide, I get to do what I love each and every day. On top of that, what we do is having a direct impact on other people’s lives. This brings purpose to the day. It’s so amazing to be part of a team of like-minded individuals with different passions and interests and to share and explore them with each other. For me, I love surfing. It’s very meditative being out in the water and the waves. It’s a great way to experience the energy and power of the ocean—and nature as a whole. I always feel better after a session and sharing that with other people is what it’s all about!”- Max E., AR Guide

“Spending time with other like-minded people has a huge impact, but this is even more powerful when we’re working together, collaborating and learning how to climb, paddle, bike, etc. The most enjoyable aspect for me personally is working with those who are truly passionate about the work. Sober living starts with a simple desire. Adventure Recovery teaches a lifelong love of sober life. This has been an incredible adventure and I feel truly blessed.” - Anthony T., AR Guide

Adventure Recovery: Truly Making a Difference

As we serve more populations and incorporate clinical therapeutic support into our roster of AR Crew resources, we are able to measure the impact of the Adventure Recovery approach through our outcomes. In the past five years, we’ve served over 1300+ different groups, impacting 4,600+ individuals through AR group programming. Additionally, we’ve served 1500+ clients in groups and individual Adventure Recovery coaching, AR guided experiences, and one-on-one mentorship. The average mentor-mentee engagement lasts 16+ months, ensuring consistency in communication and follow-through and our crew maintains connection so clients always know they have support. AR trainees often go on to work as adventure guides and expand their repertoire of outdoor skills as they continue on the path of healthy living. In addition, we see a decrease in symptoms of anxiety and stress. Clients note increased feelings of self-worth and improvement in communication and connection overall. Self-actualization comes through esteem-based acts and AR Coaches, AR Guides, AR Clinicians, and clients reap the rewards of intentional time in nature. This is where the magic happens.

“AR training was such an incredible, beautiful, and very challenging experience that will be with me forever. The trainers are dedicated and passionate about what they do. It was such an amazing feeling to be around a group of people that have the same passion and love for nature and most importantly are passionate about helping others. This experience taught me so much and challenged me to step out of my comfort zone. I am grateful and feel blessed to be part of the AR family.” - Omayra P.

“Adventure Recovery is an important partner of Mountainside. Our organizations have an extensive history of working together and many similarities in our approach to recovery. Adventure Recovery continues to support our clients in their pursuit of connecting with the outdoors and exploring how nature is a powerful resource in cultivating total wellness. The AR team is incredibly easy to work with, taking care of the planning and facilitation of activities and tailoring each experience to the needs of clients—all while making sure the experience is first class from start to finish. Mountainside is looking forward to more adventure in the year ahead with the AR team!”—Jason Cloutier, Director, Extended Care Sober Living, Mountainside Treatment Center

Adventure Recovery Reviews Outcomes

“Through challenging and exhilarating outdoor experiences (whitewater kayaking, rock climbing, fire ceremony, etc.) I learn what it means to be vulnerable, to be a beginner (and be ok with that). The self-awareness would not have been possible without a teacher to guide, to challenge, to reflect, and at times, to simply walk alongside me. The connection nourishes my spirit and offers me a sense of safety and vitality. In AR, I’ve come home to myself and others.”— Josh Flaherty, AR Guide, Executive Director

Adventure Recovery Leadership

“Adventure Recovery founder, Tim Walsh, facilitates the Youth Wellness Council for ADAP in Weston, CT. He’s done so for the last ten years and is an integral part of our program’s success. His unique approach fosters lasting connection and creates a safe environment where our kids can openly share their feelings around substance use and the underlying challenges facing teenagers and parents today. Tim’s leadership is powerful and the ongoing connection he and his team maintains with our community’s kids, parents, and facilitators is a testament to the impact of his model.”— Rob Handel, President of the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program (ADAP) of Weston, CT
