HOW ADVENTURE RECOVERY WORKS

Where do you want to go today?

You choose the activity, we make it happen. Optional outdoor adventures include hiking, rock climbing, rafting, surfing, kayaking, camping, snowboarding, skiing, biking, fire ceremony, rites of passage, weekend and extended overnight immersions, and more. Custom nature-based adventure experiences are what we do.

Whether in recovery or not, anyone can recover the spirit in adventure. Want to learn how to surf? Have you always wanted to go rock climbing? Do you want to meet like-minded people who love time in nature as much as you do? Whether you seek guided sober adventures or simply want to learn and master outdoor skills, we are here for you. Adventure Recovery leads the way. All you need is a desire for adventure, and we'll make it happen. Recovery is about reclaiming our natural instincts to play, to explore, and to be outside. This is where we find spaciousness; this is where we find ourselves. This is why we go.

HOW AR WORKS

ADVENTURE RECOVERY OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

HIKING & ORIENTEERING

There are countless trails to be explored and even more backcountry terrain to discover. Learn to navigate and understand the natural world and all it offers. Discover the beauty and awe of hidden places, uncrowded spaces, and the healing power of being outside. From simple walks along the trail to multi-day expeditions, hiking offers the opportunity to experience nature directly, as one with the elements. Orienteering with map and compass imparts skills for navigating independently through varied terrains.

CLIMBING & RAPPELLING

Climbing focuses on skill and techniques. Participants develop trust and risk management skills while learning the fundamentals of site safety, rope skills, knots, natural anchors, mindful movement, proper equipment use, and styles of ascent and descent. Rock climbing blends technique, strength, trust, balance, and problem-solving. Find the route, face fears, and learn the fundamentals of movement on the wall. Climbing allows us to solve a puzzle with our whole body, as each route invites challenge, focus, and moments of triumph.

Rappelling involves descending a rock face or cliff using ropes and technical equipment. Participants learn to control their speed and posture as they move steadily toward the ground. Rappelling is pure exhilaration as we face fears, stepping backward off a cliff, to find that control and capability are available the whole time.

RAFTING & WHITEWATER

Rafting, kayaking, canoeing, SUP and surfing are dynamic, powerful activities. AR guides lead educational and transformative adventures in remarkable environments for participants to get the most out of their experience. Whitewater is about navigating river currents, waves, and calm stretches together. The team collaborates to paddle, communicate, and move safely downstream. Time on the river together reinforces teamwork, interconnection, and emotional attunement. Rivers mirror the ebb and flow of life—periods of turbulence followed by calm. Participants learn to respond, rather than react, and build trust within the group.

CEREMONY & RITUAL

Fire ceremony, ritual offerings, and customized experiences offer individuals and groups the distinct opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate. Ceremony and rituals inspire a spirit of connection and reverence for all living things. These practices have been handed down to AR team members by elders in various traditions. Facilitators create space to mark a moment, ignite awareness, and to transform. Ancient practices and rites can include fire ceremony, mindfulness in nature, solo expeditions, nature as healer, and the sweat lodge. The AR ceremony and rituals services are led by trained individuals who are skilled in all risk mitigation and ensure each experience is tailored to the desired outcomes.

STANDUP PADDLEBOARDING/SUP

Standup paddling involves standing or kneeling on a wide, stable paddleboard while navigating calm lakes, reservoirs, or slow-moving rivers. Activities are both playful and serene. Participants enjoy balance, movement, and the sensory experience of being on water—often leading to laughter, focus, and deep relaxation. SUP promotes balance: physically, mentally, and emotionally. The water environment naturally encourages calm and mindfulness. Navigating a board requires presence and adaptive thinking, mirroring the regulation skills needed in daily life. SUP is a gentle, empowering way to reconnect with the body.

SNOW SPORTS: XC SKIING, SNOWBOARDING, DOWNHILL SKIING

Snow sports and winter activities celebrate the wonder and beauty of the winter season. We offer downhill and backcountry snowboarding and skiing trips, as well as winter hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and winter camping and bushcraft. Cross-country skiing involves traversing natural trails, mountains, forests, or open terrain. It can range from relaxing flows to moderate, intentioned treks through varied landscapes.

“As a fellow mental health professional, I have had the pleasure of working with numerous treatment programs and other professionals, but Adventure Recovery truly stands out. The level of expertise, care, and professionalism demonstrated by the entire team is unparalleled. Their commitment and genuine compassion for clients and nature create an environment where true healing and growth can take place. What particularly impresses me is how seamlessly they collaborate with other professionals to meet the unique needs of each client. Their collaborative approach fosters a deep sense of safety and trust, which is so crucial in the healing process. The team at AR prioritizes the well-being and empowerment of the individual. Being in nature with their incredible guides has helped my clients build confidence and courage—both foundational to health and wellness.”
